Jackie Sherrill is a former American football player and coach. He was born on November 28, 1943 in Duncan, Oklahoma. Sherrill played college football at the University of Alabama as a linebacker and he was a part of the famous Alabama teams coached by Bear Bryant in the 1960s.
After his playing career, Sherrill transitioned into coaching and had a successful career as a head coach at several schools. He was the head coach at Washington State University from 1976-1979, the University of Pittsburgh from 1977-1981, Texas A&M University from 1982-1988, and Mississippi State University from 1991-2003.
During his coaching career, Sherrill earned a reputation as a tough, disciplinarian coach who led his teams to success on the field. He was known for building strong defenses and developing players who went on to successful careers in the NFL. Sherrill is particularly well-known for his time at Texas A&M, where he led the Aggies to three consecutive Southwest Conference championships from 1985-1987.
After retiring from coaching, Sherrill has worked as a football analyst and commentator for various media outlets. He remains a well-respected figure in the college football community.
